In 1861 my 4x gt grandparents Samuel Allery and Elizabeth (nee Symons) lived in Higher Street Dartmouth. Samuel was a tallow chandler and the census shows that Elizabeth was blind. Living with them was Samuel's older brother William and Robert Chase who may have been their cousin.After Elizabeth's death in 1869 Samuel continued to live in Higher Street and was there in 1871. He died in Totnes workhouse in 1877.
